Community Garden Challenge winners announced!

Emirates Hills resident bags best garden

The Community Garden Challenge 2020 was a neighbourhood sensation, with over 160 green-thumbed residents from our villa communities in Arabian Ranches I, II, Reem and Emirates Living flooding us with picturesque entries. Our judges were left spellbound by the varieties of flowering shrubs and trees that families in the community had passionately cultivated – in numerous instances, even children had pulled on their gardening gloves and played an active role in tending to the gardens!

Dr Minal Patwardhane won the grand prize of AED 25,000 for her spellbinding garden. Featuring medicinal herbs, edible plants and flowers of all sizes and colours, Dr Minal’s herb, fruit and flower garden won points for being sustainable, creative, functional and for her personal commitment and involvement in creating her green space.

Fifteen titles and promising gardens were awarded prizes for their meticulous effort and passion.

New palms are here

18 November 2020

50 new trees have been along the main road near the central park, near the lakes, and numerous other locations. The fronds (leaves) of new trees are usually tied up for several weeks for a number of reasons.

  • Young trees are still vulnerable, with tender fronds (leaves) growing out of the centre of the crown. Tying up the surrounding fronds helps protect them.
  • The root system is still developing and with the fronds wrapped, the tree can dedicate more energy into reestablishing the roots after planting.
  • Tying up the fronds also helps slow down water loss during those crucial first few weeks.

Pest control extended

17 November 2020

Pest control activities in your community will be extended until April 2021, since it happens to be their preferred breeding season.

Drain systems, bushes, lawns, water bodies and all other potential breeding hotspots will be sprayed with Dubai Municipality-approved insecticide two to three times every week.

Pest control is a joint responsibility, here are some tips to stop them breeding inside your boundary walls.

  • With the rainy season looming, make sure that you don’t leave empty containers or bowls outside.
  • Discard of gardening and landscaping waste promptly from your yard.
  • Consider installing mosquito traps around your home.

Road safety initiatives

A number of speedhumps have been installed throughout the community to promote safer driving.

17 November 2020

We’re always striving to ensure the community’s roads are safer for all, and to help promote safer driving within the speed limits we just installed a plethora of speed humps throughout the community.

Road safety is a joint responsibility, and here are a few tips drivers can follow to ensure a safer neighbourhood:

  • 1. Always keep an eye out for cyclists, skaters and children.
  • 2. Never overtake on narrow lanes or tailgate other drivers.
  • 3. Remember, the speed limit inside the community is 25 km/h.

Your community’s brand new pumping station is on the way, and will be dedicated to keeping the roads throughout Arabian Ranches dry all through the year!

  • The pumping station, built completely underground, will help draw water out of low-lying roads during heavy rainfall.
  • The station is connected to a network of sub-surface pipes have been installed beneath the community’s major roads.
  • Integrated to the drainage system, the pipes channel water away from the roads and into the lakes.

Celebrating UAE Flag Day

The UAE flag soared high on flag day in all Emaar communities.

03 November 2020

The UAE’s flag rose high and proud as the country celebrated flag day, as residents from all communities watched the national colours soar and flutter in the sky.

Emiratis as well as expats reveled in the national spirit and reflected on the country’s success, as a flag-hoisting ceremony took place at 9:30 AM in Downtown Dubai, while the UAE national anthem serenaded the neighbourhood. Flags were also installed at the community gatehouses and atop towers.

Tree pruning underway

Trees throughout the community are being to pruned to ensure their health and longevity.

02 November 2020

If you’ve noticed a number of trees being trimmed throughout your community, don’t be alarmed – we’re not harming the trees. On the contrary we’re actually helping them!

  • 1. Pruning trees from time to time helps the roots better stabilise the
trunk. With windy, rainy weather expected, pruned trees will be better equipped to resist the elements.
  • 2. Any dead or dying branches are also removed, halting the spread of decay and allowing for fresh growth.
  • 3. With shorter branches, the pruned trees also allow more vital sunlight to reach plants below them. This is especially crucial during winter months, when days are shorter.

Winter is the best time to prune, as trees are more dormant and have more energy reserves to grow quickly.
